Martin Bundi Rugendo is a dedicated sonographer and medical imaging professional based at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Department of Radiology, with a strong background in diagnostic imaging, broad clinical ultrasound experience and a growing specialist focus on advanced gynecological and endometriosis ultrasound imaging.
His professional journey is built on a strong academic foundation in medical imaging. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Radiography, complemented by a Higher National Diploma in Sonography, which has provided him with extensive theoretical and practical training in diagnostic imaging and ultrasound. He also holds a Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences (MIS), further strengthening his foundation in medical imaging practice and patient-centred diagnostic care.
Over the course of his career, Martin has developed broad experience in ultrasound, with exposure to a wide range of clinical examinations and a particular interest in obstetric, gynecological and pelvic imaging. His approach combines technical expertise with a strong appreciation of the clinical context behind every examination, with the aim of providing imaging findings that are meaningful to both patients and referring clinicians.
At KNH, Martin serves as the CME Lead within the Radiology Department, where he coordinates continuing medical education activities and promotes continuous professional development, knowledge sharing and skills advancement among radiology professionals. Through this role, he contributes to strengthening a culture of learning and professional excellence within the department.
One of the most significant areas of his professional development has been his growing specialization in endometriosis ultrasound imaging. Through dedicated clinical exposure, mentorship and advanced hands-on training, Martin has developed a strong interest in structured assessment and ultrasound mapping of endometriosis.
This interest is deeply connected to his commitment to patient care. Martin is passionate about helping women who have experienced years of pelvic pain and other symptoms without a clear diagnosis. He recognizes the emotional and clinical impact of repeatedly being told that imaging is normal when symptoms persist, and this has strengthened his determination to continually improve his ability to recognize subtle and complex ultrasound findings.
Beyond clinical practice, Martin has a strong interest in education, research, professional development and knowledge dissemination. He has contributed published articles and case-based educational material through Radiopaedia, sharing clinical imaging knowledge and interesting cases with the wider medical imaging community.
He has also participated in ultrasound training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening ultrasound skills among healthcare professionals. These experiences have reinforced his passion for mentorship, education and the development of sustainable ultrasound capacity.
As a RASCO member, Martin is committed to contributing to the advancement of radiology and ultrasound practice in Kenya. His professional interests bring together clinical ultrasound, advanced gynecological imaging, endometriosis, education, research, professional leadership and patient-centred care.
His long-term vision is to contribute to the development of high-quality, structured endometriosis ultrasound services and standardized imaging protocols in Kenya, while supporting the advancement of sonography as an essential component of modern diagnostic imaging.
