Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori is a distinguished Ghanaian academic, scholar, and university
administrator. He is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Garden City University, a reputable
independent chartered university in Ghana. Garden City University has a niche of quality,
equitable and inclusive health and allied sciences education that empowers graduates to be
independent, lifelong learners and responsible citizens, who have a passion for job creation while
contributing to public service and their communities.
Professor Ofori has a rich academic background encompassing Agricultural Engineering,
Biomedical Engineering, and Medical Imaging. He graduated in 1993 from the University of
Science and Technology, now known as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,
in Kumasi, with a BSc (Honours) in Agricultural Engineering. He went on to pursue further studies
at the Tsukuba International Centre in Japan, receiving a Certificate in Agricultural Engineering.
He then earned an MPhil in Radiography from City University, London, before transitioning to a
PhD in Health Sciences (Radiography), which he completed at the University of Liverpool, UK,
in 2009.
Professor Ofori’s teaching career spans three prominent public universities in Ghana: the
University of Ghana, the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, and the
University of Cape Coast. Additionally, he has consulted for numerous technical and private
universities across Ghana. In January 2017, he was appointed Associate Professor of Medical
Imaging at the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) at UHAS, and he became a full professor
in April 2021. Before joining UHAS, he served in various capacities at the University of Ghana,
including senior lecturer and lecturer in the School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences from
2010 to 2016. In 2023, he took on a role as a visiting professor in the Department of Imaging
Technology and Sonography at the University of Cape Coast.
Throughout his career, Professor Ofori has showcased strong administrative skills at the
Universities he has worked for in Ghana. He spent six years as the Dean of the School of Allied
Health Sciences at UHAS and has also served as the Head of the Imaging Technology and
Sonography Department at UCC. On several occasions, he has taken on the responsibilities of
Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor at UHAS.
With over two decades of teaching and research experience, Professor Ofori has taught a range of
courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Medical Imaging. He has successfully
supervised 10 PhD students, 15 MPhil students, and more than 60 undergraduate dissertations. As
a prolific scholar, he has published over 40 articles in esteemed medical imaging journals. His
areas of specialisation include quality assurance and radiation protection in diagnostic imaging,
medical imaging instrumentation, radiography education, and women’s health. He has also
presented at numerous local and international conferences.
In addition to his teaching and research, Professor Ofori serves as an external assessor for the
Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s Institutional and was the National Vice-President of the
University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), as well as the local Vice-President at the
University of Ghana from 2015 to 2017.
He has lent his expertise as a consultant to several private and technical universities in Ghana,
assisting in curriculum development, and he has undertaken various national and international
assignments representing the Universities he has worked for in Ghana.
Professor Ofori is a registered member of the Allied Health Professions Council and the Ghana
Society of Radiographers (GSR). He is also affiliated with the International Society of
Radiographers and Technologists (ISRT) and the Pan-African Congress of Radiology & Imaging
(PACORI). In 2018, Professor Ofori was Conferred with an Honorary Membership of the Ghana
Society of Radiographers. Known for his exceptional ability to mobilise resources and drive
significant academic advancements, he enjoys playing football, tennis, and travelling in his spare
time.
